Lasik Eye SurgeryI started wearing glasses in the 2nd grade.  I was very near-sighted and with a bad astigmatism, contacts weren’t a good option.  Soft contacts were comfortable, but I couldn’t see well enough.  I could see out of gas-permeable weighted lenses, but they hurt too bad to wear for extended periods of time.

So, I had Lasik eye surgery eight years ago (when it was way more expensive)!  They had told me that my vision was so bad that I’d probably still need to wear reading glasses, but I was okay with that.  Lo and behold I woke up to better than 20/20 vision the next day!  There is nothing better than not having to squint in the middle of the night to read the alarm clock!

Over the last couple of years, my eye sight is slowly diminishing, so I was wearing glasses periodically for night driving, watching television/movies and while under flourescents in auditoriums to see better.

When my eye doctor told me in June that they had pretty much perfected getting an enhancement done, I said sign me up!  Both my regular eye doctor and the surgeon suggested that I just do the right dominate eye and have mono-vision.  Supposedly 90% off recipients like this idea/theory.  But when I woke up to better than 20/20 in my right eye the next day, and compared to my blurry left eye, I wanted that eye done, too.

They made me give it time to adjust, yadda yadda.  Finally they agreed that I was in that 10% category, and that brings us up to last week.  I wish they would have just done the other eye enhancement back in June to save on time, money, gas, prescription eye drops, and the worst part – having to go a whole week without wearing makeup!

You’d think I would have been an old pro at this by now, but for some reason (maybe the Valium didn’t kick in), I was extremely anxious and swear I could feel every cut of the flap opening, the laser burning, and I was in pain afterwards.  If this would have happened the very first time, I definitely would not have had it done again.

The next day, I am not seeing 20/20 out of that eye and getting nervous.  The eye doctor says my cornea is swollen. Continue drops.   The swelling is still there after a week, but the doctor says it is getting better and has lessoned my amount of eye drop intake of Zymar and Pred Forte.  And they say I’m 20/20!

I have noticed driving that my far-sighted vision is perfect!  Growing up extremely near-sighted makes one appreciate seeing the leaves on the trees in the distance.  The doctor is again afraid I will eventually need reading glasses, but don’t most people after they hit middle-age?  Trust me, I’d rather wear reading glasses periodically than be near-sighted again.

Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile – time has gotten away from me.  I promise to be better as I found a plastic surgeon near me that does Mommy Makeovers!  But more about that later…
